Florida In-Home Care Providers: What’s Required for the NEW DOEA-Approved Alzheimer's Training?
If you operate a:
• State-licensed home health agency
• State-licensed nurse registry
• Homemaker or companion service
You are required to ensure that employees and independent contractors who provide services — or have contact with clients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias — meet Florida’s ADRD training requirements.
These requirements are enforced through AHCA survey standards and align with current Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) guidelines.
The good news: compliance is straightforward.
The 3 Required Steps for ADRD Compliance
1️⃣ Provide Written Alzheimer’s Information
Written Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD) educational materials must be provided at:
• Referral
• Intake
• Or start of care
No later than first client contact.
DOEA provides sample written materials for this purpose.
2️⃣ Complete the FREE 1-Hour DOEA Training (Within 30 Days)
All applicable staff must complete the official:
FREE, state-provided 1-hour DOEA Alzheimer’s training
This must be completed within 30 days of hire or referral and must be taken directly through the DOEA website in order to receive a certificate.
3️⃣ Complete DOEA-Approved 2-Hour ADRD Training (Within 3 Months)
For in-home care providers, the required 2-hour Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) training must:
• Be DOEA-approved
• Meet current DOEA training guidelines
• Be completed within 3 months of hire or referral
C-E-U.com provides Florida-compliant, DOEA-aligned 2-hour ADRD training designed specifically for in-home care providers.

Important: The July 1, 2026 Compliance Deadline
Under Florida law, employees and independent contractors hired prior to July 1, 2023 were provided a statutory transition window to complete required ADRD training.
By July 1, 2026:
All in-home care employees and contractors must be fully compliant with current DOEA ADRD training standards.
Providers should review caregiver files now to ensure documentation meets current DOEA guidelines.
Legacy training that does not meet current standards will not satisfy AHCA requirements.
Applicable Statutes & Survey Standards
Florida Statutes:
• 400.4785 – Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) training requirements
• 400.506 – Nurse Registry training and documentation requirements
AHCA Enforcement Standards:
• Core (CZ875 / ZZ875) training and documentation standards
• G-Tags (Nurse Registries)
• H-Tags (Home Health Agencies)
While survey tags vary by license type, the underlying ADRD training requirements are consistent across in-home providers.
Why Providers Are Updating ADRD Training Now
Many legacy ADRD courses:
• Do not align with current DOEA guidelines
• Lack required documentation standards
• Were not designed specifically for in-home care compliance
Ensuring alignment before July 1, 2026 protects providers from survey deficiencies and administrative action.
