Course Description
Older adults receiving in-home care may be vulnerable to abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation. Caregivers often develop close relationships with clients and may be among the first individuals to recognize signs that something is wrong. Understanding how to identify warning signs and respond appropriately is an essential responsibility for anyone providing care to older adults.
This course provides an overview of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation in the home care setting. Learners will review definitions under Florida law, common warning signs, and the role caregivers play in protecting vulnerable adults. The course also explains Florida’s mandatory reporting requirements and how to report suspected abuse to the Florida Abuse Hotline.
Through practical examples and reflection scenarios, caregivers will learn how to identify risk factors, recognize concerning situations, and take appropriate action to protect clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
