This course provides an in-depth overview of the primary caregiver referral and independent contractor (IC) models used by nurse registries in the United States. Learners will gain a clear understanding of how true IC nurse registries operate, how household-employer placement services differ, and how online marketplace platforms fit into the broader caregiving ecosystem. Special attention is given to the three primary payment structures used by IC-based registries: single referral fee, escrow or pass-through billing, and third-party payor models. Learners will also review how software systems support, but do not define, registry operations. The goal of this course is to equip caregivers and registry personnel with a grounded understanding of industry models, compliance expectations, and the essential elements that preserve independent contractor status.
