Teaching Method: This self-paced, text-based course utilizes simple images and allows learners to complete training on their own time, with clear explanations and examples relevant to RNs, LPNs, HHAs and CNAs 

Course Description: This training is developed specifically to satisfy the following:

FAC 59A-18.0081 (5)(a) Perform other activities as taught and documented by a registered nurse, concerning activities for a specific patient and restricted to the following: 

  •  Assisting with the placement or removal of a colostomy bag, excluding the removal of the flange or manipulation of the stoma’s site.

The materials are applicable to all healthcare professionals who assist clients with Colostomy care.

Objective:

Equip RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and HHAs with the skills and knowledge to perform specific patient care activities as directed by a registered nurse (RN), ensuring patient safety and adherence to standard medical protocols. Specifically with the placement and removal of colostomy bags, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and hygiene. This module excludes the removal of the flange/wafer or any manipulation of the stoma site which may be prohibited by statute or require additional training.
