I am an In-Home Caregiver. Do I Need 1-Hour or 2-Hour Alzheimer’s Training?
If you are a caregiver in Florida, you might see multiple Alzheimer’s classes — a 1-hour and a 2-hour course (sometimes more for nursing facilities).
Many caregivers ask, “Which Alzheimer's training do I need?”
Here’s the easy answer:
For in-home care, Florida caregivers need both!
Why Two Classes
Florida law says caregivers who help people with Alzheimer’s must understand the disease and how to give safe, kind care, and each class teaches something different.
FREE! 1-Hour Class
This class is for caregivers who give hands-on care, like HHAs or CNAs.
You must take it within 30 days after you start working, although many businesses require it right away.
- Here is a link to the free class:
- Just scroll down, watch the movie, and then enter your email. A training certificate will be sent to you.
- To get your official training certificate, you must watch the training on the linked DOEA website, not on YouTube.
- When the video ends, the page will change on its own (this can take up to 30 seconds).
- A form will show up, and you need to fill out the whole form.
- Your certificate will be emailed to you within five business days.
- Here is a link to request your certificate be reissued.
- Follow this link to request your 1 hour training certificate be reissued.
2-Hour Class
This course is required for caregivers who also plan care, schedule visits, or work in the office.
You must take it within 3 months after you start, although many offices require it initially.
Even if you already have “Alzheimer’s Training,” it must be DOEA-approved — and many trainings simply are not.
