Overview

This course provides caregivers with practical, Florida-specific guidance on recognizing and responding to suspected elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation in home care settings. It outlines how vulnerable adults are defined under Florida law and explains the caregiver’s role in identifying concerning conditions that may not be visible in more structured care environments.

Learners will review common warning signs, including physical injuries, behavioral changes, emotional distress, and indicators of financial exploitation. The course also addresses increased risks among individuals with dementia and highlights how cognitive impairment may impact a client’s ability to report or describe abuse.

The course explains Florida’s mandatory reporting requirements, emphasizing that caregivers are required to report reasonable suspicion of abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Florida Abuse Hotline. It reinforces that caregivers are not responsible for proving abuse, but must act promptly to help ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable adults.
